Athletic Club 0-3 FC Barcelona: A Perfect Ending for the Season

FC Barcelona wrapped up their 2024/25 campaign in style with a commanding 3–0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés. Although the league title was secured two weeks ago with a win over Espanyol, the team was eager to bounce back from last week’s loss to Villarreal—and they did just that.

This match may not have had anything riding on it in terms of standings—Athletic had already secured a Champions League spot—but pride and momentum were still on the line. And with club legend Óscar De Marcos saying goodbye to the Bilbao faithful, the hosts were determined to put on a show of their own.

    Lewandowski at the Double

Despite a strong start from the home side, it was Barça who struck first. Against the run of play, a moment of brilliance from Fermín López found Robert Lewandowski, who calmly lifted the ball over Unai Simón for the opener. That goal marked his 100th for the club—and Barcelona’s 100th in the league this season.

And just minutes later, he doubled the lead. A defensive header from Unai Núñez fell kindly for the Polish striker, who made no mistake in finishing again. Lewandowski may have been out of the running for the Pichichi after Mbappé’s recent heroics, but he showed he wasn’t done fighting.

    Olmo Seals It Late

From there, Barça tightened their grip on the game. Athletic kept pressing, and Nico Williams nearly pulled one back, but the visitors were in control. Lamine Yamal lit up the second half with a series of dazzling runs and chances, showing exactly why he’s one of the most exciting young talents in world football.

The final goal came at the death, when Dani Olmo was brought down in the box and converted the penalty himself to make it 3–0. A fitting final touch to close out both Barça’s season and the La Liga campaign.

    A Season to Remember

Few expected such success from a team in transition—with a new manager in Hansi Flick and a youthful squad finding its feet. But against all odds, Barça delivered: La Liga champions, Copa del Rey winners, Supercopa victors, and just shy of a Champions League Final appearance.

From thrilling comebacks to four memorable Clásico wins and the breakout of a new generation of stars, this has been one of the most memorable seasons in club history. And perhaps most exciting of all—it feels like this is just the beginning.

The journey starts anew in August. And we’re ready.
    Força Barça!
