Luis Enrique Shares Record with Guardiola After Winning the Champions League

This past Saturday, PSG lifted the Champions League trophy — the long-awaited prize they’ve been desperately trying to win for many years, ever since the club was taken over by the Qatari owners several decades ago. They destroyed Inter Milan with a 5-0 win, a result never before seen in a Champions League final.

Not even when they had the best attacking trio in the world — Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé — were they able to win it. Ironically, now that all three are gone and the team has no superstars, they’ve finally done it. That’s football for you — the same thing happened to Real Madrid’s “Galácticos,” where Beckham and Ronaldo never managed to win the Champions League with the club.

The Curse of Mbappé — the player left for Madrid, tired of not winning it, and the very season he leaves… PSG wins it!

    Luis Enrique’s Record

With this trophy, Luis Enrique has completed the treble this season with PSG (winning Ligue 1, the French Cup, and now the Champions League). He had already won a treble with FC Barcelona in the 2014/2015 season (in fact, that was the last time Barcelona won the Champions League).

Only one other coach has also won the treble twice, and he’s also a Barcelona man — Pep Guardiola, who did it with Barcelona in 2008/2009 and with Manchester City in 2022/2023.

There are a few other managers who have won the treble once, such as Mourinho with Inter, Flick with Bayern, and Ferguson with Manchester United. Curiously, despite having 15 Champions League titles, Real Madrid has never managed to win the treble.
